Downside Community Centre
& the Community Café

Who we are

Pan Together is a small local charity which exists to support and provide a community hub for the residents of Newport East, Isle of Wight. We are a membership-based organisation, where members have a say and (if they live locally) a vote on what we do.

Pan Together has eight charity trustees who have been elected to provide a strategic overview for the charity, and we employ a full-time Community Centre Manager, three part-time project workers and three part-time café staff.

We began as a community centre in 2007 and operated for many years, supporting our local community, from a portacabin. With local authority funding we relocated in 2016 to our fully equipped and purpose-built Community Centre in the heart of Pan in Newport East on the Isle of Wight.

Operating as a registered charity since January 2018, our Community Centre boasts a vibrant and popular Community Café, a Weekly Community Larder, a Fully Equipped IT Learning Suite, a Professionally Equipped Training Kitchen and several Community Meeting Rooms which are available to hire.

Without the help of our dedicated staff, amazing volunteers, individuals and organisations – who donate their time and services – and successful grant applications, we would not have been able to achieve any of this.

Royal Visit.

Prince Edward and Sophie Countess of Wessex visited the Isle of Wight in May 2022.

The Royal couple saw work done by Pan Together, at Downside Community Centre, in the heart of Newport East.

Queen’s Award.

As part of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations in June 2022, Pan Together was awarded the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service (QAVS).  This is the highest award a voluntary organisation can receive in the UK and is the organisational equivalent of an MBE.

High Sheriff’s Award.

In December 2022, the charity received a High Sheriff’s Award in recognition of ‘great and valuable services to the community’ from Kay Marriott.

On 31st March 2023, Pan Together received a Gold Award and was named People-focused Project of the Year at the first Vectis Radio Isle of Wight Community Awards.
